Police in Pekan have detained three individuals in connection with an organised operation involving the sale and forgery of medical leave certificates. The three suspects—comprising a mechanic, workshop owner and cleaner, all in their 30s—were taken into custody on June 15 following a complaint filed by the District Health Office (PKD) on June 10.

According to Pekan police chief Supt Mohd Zaidi Mat Zin, the arrested individuals functioned as intermediaries in the scheme, responsible for finding buyers and handling transactions. The operation came to light after the PKD received word from someone who claimed to have purchased a medical certificate from a local resident, who had obtained it from a government clinic in exchange for payment.

The certificates were being marketed at prices ranging from RM50 to RM200. Investigations revealed that the medical officer whose signature appeared on the documents had been reassigned to another facility in 2023 and that the official stamp used was obsolete and no longer authorised for use.

Authorities believe the scheme was structured as an organised enterprise, with the three detainees acting as go-betweens to solicit customers and facilitate sales. The primary suspect remains at large—a woman believed to be a government clinic employee who allegedly provided the forged certificates.

The three men are scheduled to appear before Pekan Magistrate's Court on June 16 for a remand application. Police are investigating the matter under Sections 468 and 420 of the Penal Code, which cover forgery and cheating respectively.
