Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has cautioned Johor residents to elect leaders who demonstrate integrity and humility rather than arrogance once in power, pledging to protect the interests of ordinary citizens and the poor. Speaking at a Pakatan Harapan rally in Muar on June 15, Anwar warned against politicians who exploit racial divisions to win votes but then abandon public welfare once elected.
Anwar stressed that voter choice plays a decisive role in shaping a state's trajectory. He criticised certain factions for stoking sentiment-driven politics while failing to deliver on campaign promises. "For politics to succeed, people must read and listen. Do not exploit sentiments of hatred," he said, urging voters to consider the broader implications for their families, schools, and healthcare systems.
The Prime Minister emphasised that newly elected representatives must focus on addressing public grievances rather than becoming complacent. He argued that close coordination between state and federal governments is essential for development initiatives to benefit ordinary residents. Anwar highlighted major infrastructure projects such as the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone and the expansion of Tanjung Pelepas Port as examples where federal-state cooperation matters.
Anwar made clear that while the state government contributes to such projects, execution often falls to the federal level. "I want state representatives and state exco members to take care of the ordinary citizens below," he said, calling for Pakatan Harapan's victory to bring policy changes aligned with federal development agendas.
Anwar also appealed to Johor voters outside the state to return home and cast their ballots on July 11. He underscored that every vote carries weight in driving policy shifts and ensuring economic growth benefits reach grassroots communities comprehensively.
